REPLACEMENT DWELLING WITH A NEW MODERN THATCH
The design was not without its challenges, the cottage sits in an irregular shaped plot with one side parallel to the street. The solution was to build a two-storey section overlooking the street with a single-storey to the rear of the property to prevent ‘over developing the site’.
The property was identified as a ‘building of note’ in the Westlington and Dinton Conservation area. Through considered investigation and discussions with the Parish Council, it was proven that the building had been rebuilt following a severe fire. Planning permission was acquired to demolish the house and replace it with a new bespoke family home.
The new design will be constructed in oak and SIPS (Structurally Insulated Panels) before being clad with lime render and a thatched roof. The vaulted ceiling with timber trusses in the living area adds to the feeling of space. Internally the south facing bi-fold glass doors flood the home with light. On the first floor the master suite comes complete with a stunning slotted window cut into the thatch roof. Externally there are two patio areas, one that takes full advantage of the south facing courtyard and one facing to the north which is more open for visitors to park.
The project is due to commence on site September 2020, with the full support of the local parish council who commented that the design would be an asset to the village.
