GRADE II LISTED BUILDING RENOVATED AND MODERNISED FOR 21st CENTURY LIVING
The brief was to adapt this wonderful early 19th Century Grade II Listed building into a 21st Century Family house. Our aim is to be sympathetic to the existing building by retaining as much of the original fabric as possible. We opted for a two storey extension at the rear with a glass gable overlooking the local park, finished with a pitched roof and a single storey extension to the side of the property with a flat roof. The existing building is finished in white render with Spanish grey slates, keeping the same style for the extensions, so they are read as part of the main building rather than additions.
As a renovation project, we always expect to have unexpected events, and this project wasn’t an exception. A few days after starting on-site it was discovered that it was not a brick building as stated in the Listing, it was actually a timber frame property in very poor condition. This was a challenge for the entire project team, but needless to say the result is stunning, even if the original schedule extended somewhat!
